Hankook FFF Racing Team completes a demanding maiden ADAC Total 24H race at Nurburgring
8th June 2021
Hankook FFF Racing Team faced a challenging task at its maiden Nürburgring 24 Hours, but despite the odds, managed to reach the chequered flag with its Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO driven by Giacomo Altoè, Mirko Bortolotti, Marco Mapelli and Franck Perera, and fitted with Hankook Ventus Race tyres.
The Chinese squad showed its potential taking provisional pole position on Thursday, when Bortolotti set the best lap in 8:18.575 during Qualifying 2, while the final starting position was 19th after the rain fell during the Top Qualifying session.
The 2021 edition of the legendary endurance race on the Nordschleife offered tricky weather conditions, not only with rain but most worryingly with fog, which forced the organizers to stop the clock on Saturday evening. The race restarted only on Sunday at11:40, when visibility came back to a safe standard, leaving roughly three and half hours to contest until the finish.
Entered in the highest-competitive SP9 Pro class, Hankook FFF Racing Team retired from the ADAC Total 24h Rennen having completed 31 laps. One incident on Saturday with difficult heavy rain conditions, and another one on Sunday, when the team came back to action to get important data for tyre development unfortunately compromised the final result considering as well the delay for the repair work required by the car.
Fu Songyang, Team Owner Hankook FFF Racing Team
“We were conscious that anything can happen when racing on the Nordschleife, and our first Nürburgring 24 Hours didn’t make an exception. Despite the long night break, the race has been very demanding and even more complicated for us, as we lost a lot of time due to the two crashes in which we’ve been involved. We strongly wanted to complete the task and we didn’t give up, even if the final result didn’t match our expectations and the potential we showed in the first qualifying sessions together with our tyre partner Hankook. We look at the positive side, like the experience we have now acquired and which will be useful when we renew our assault next year”.
